Core Techniques
A good cocktail depends on more than ingredients: temperature, dilution and texture must work together. Technique directly changes clarity, body and aroma.
- 01
Shake
Shake recipes containing citrus, syrup, dairy or egg firmly. Fill the shaker with solid ice, work for 10–15 seconds until fully chilled, then strain without delay.
- 02
Stir
For spirit-forward, clear recipes, chill and dilute without disturbing texture. Fill the mixing glass generously with ice and guide the spoon quietly around it.
- 03
Build
Highballs and spritzes are built in the serving glass. Add spirits and dense ingredients first, then ice, finishing gently with anything carbonated.
- 04
Double strain
Fine straining removes ice chips and fruit fragments for a polished texture. Pair a Hawthorne with a fine strainer, especially for coupe and Nick & Nora serves.
